Farm Holiday located at Castelnuovo Berardenga, both Villa and Fattoria" accommodation (our Tuscany farmhouse) are part of Catignano Residence, situated about 8 km. far from Siena – the city of art which is so important to the culture and history of Tuscany.
It is also only 3 km. far from road # 408, which leads from Siena to Florence, passing first through Gaiole in Chianti, Radda in Chianti and Greve in Chianti, 3 small, wonderful typical town.
Neither is it far from other equally charming places, such as Montalcino, Pienza and Montepulciano (southbound) and San Gimignano, Volterra, and Massa Marittima (west side); all of them are located no more than 50 km. away. It is equally easy, taking the motorway between Siena and Grosseto and passing through parts of Maremma, to arrive at the most pleasant beaches of the Tirreno Sea (for example Punta Ala, Castiglione della Pescaia and Talamone, all of which are less than 100 km. away).
In the sienese Chianti where you will find our Residence, the landscape is characterised by the presence of many farmhouses and villas in which the sienese aristocracy traditionally spent their time (between the Palio on the 2nd of July and that on the 16th of August) on their own villa holidays – vacanze in Villa – often inviting artists and lovers of the arts. Our "italian garden" bears testimony to all this.
In detail, the Villa and Fattoria are two buildings intimately linked and form part of one single residential, country residence. In the past, the Villa was exclusively used by the Sergardi family as their home, and the Fattoria was a real farmhouse for agricultural activity, mostly used for the production of Classic Chianti wine and olive oil.
Now, both the Fattoria and the Villa offer some of the finest, charming accommodation in Tuscany, whose difference is made up only by the kind of vacation apartments; those belonging to a cosy, typical Tuscany's country apartment-style are located in the Fattoria, on top of which are four indipendent little houses with their own garden.
The seven holiday apartments, found on the 1st floor of the Villa, are greater in size, and decorated with marvelous paintings and frescos.
The building, settled in the luscious green tuscan countryside, is framed by the Giardino all'Italiana (italian garden), and the so called Bosco Inglese (english wood).
Also, between the olive groves, you will find the Viale dei Cipressi (Cypress lane), which leads to the swimming pool, from where you can enjoy a beautiful view of Siena and its surroundings in the distance.
Due to the fact that we currently do not offer bed & breakfast or a restaurant service, every vacation apartment is furnished with its own well equipt kitchen (self catering apartments).

The "Villa di Catignano" was built at the end of XVII° century by the ancestor of the currents proprietors, Quinto Settano, pseudonym of Monsignor Lodovico Sergardi, a writer and a lover of the arts. The small borough already existed in 1500 with the name of "Clatinianum" as a property of Sergardi family. Nowadays the Villa, overlooking a beautiful italian garden, decorated with statues representing the four season, and the medievaltowers of Siena in the distance, welcomes guests who appreciate historical sites and suggestive atmospheres.
The Villa is divided into large apartments, the most suggestive ones can be reached walking through the large entrance hall dominated by the coat of arms of the Sergardi family and their motto "Expertus fidelem". Guests will appreciate lemon trees, vases of geraniums all around the Villa and the Arcadian atmosphere wich has been for centuries a frame to the tradition of a family of notaries and lovers of letters and arts. We are certain that the peace and serenity of this ensemble will remain with them forever.
If you wish to stock up on food, you will find anything you desire in the groucery stores in San Giovanni (1 km far), Ponte a Bozzone (2 km far), Pianella (5 km far).
You may consider trying the COOP (7 km far), a supermarket in the outskirts of Siena.
However, in the surrounding area – within a driving distance of 4-5 km's – you will find good and typical restaurants, to satisfy your needs since, being on vacation, you may want to laze and do not want to cook...
Many of our guests that we have known for sometime say that, during their stay, they greatly appreciated the warm and familiar atmosphere right from the moment they arrived... maybe the charming location, or be it just the beauty and history of Siena... or simply the good wine and the tranquility which gave them so much pleasure during their stay.
